Celebrating Spartanburg, Chapman Cultural Center will fill the skies this Saturday April 23 with kites of every imaginable shape and color during the third annual “Spartanburg Soaring!” International Kite Festival. Kite collector Chuck Holmes, the kite-maker who inspired Spartanburg Soaring!, joins us on set with Melissa Early of the Chapman Cultural Center.
The festival is from 11am-5pm in the greens spaces behind Chapman and next door at Barnett Park. Citizens are encouraged to bring kites, but kites for purchase will be available. There will be live local music throughout the day, food trucks and a local art market. The city of Spartanburg’s “Let’s Play Mobile” will provide a special area for children’s activities.
Live local music will be provided by Off The Wall (11 a.m.), Rock ‘n’ Roll Reunion (noon-1:30 p.m.), Mill Town Brass Band (2-3:30 p.m.), and Cool Band (3:30-5 p.m.). Plenty of free parking will be available at the adjacent Liberty Street Parking Deck. The rain date is set for Sunday, April 24, 1-5 p.m. For more information, visit ChapmanCulturalCenter.org (search “Spartanburg Soaring”) or call 864.542.ARTS.
